Description of Glendale House: Glendale House was built in 1875 by Edward Fuller Sewell, an uncle of Anna Sewell, the author of the novel "Black Beauty". It is a Victorian stone built residence occupying a prime position in the centre of the picturesque village of Goathland, high on the North Yorkshire Moors. The House overlooks the common, where sheep graze right outside the garden gate, and during the day, the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway can be heard as they pull into Goathland station, about a mile away. The large conservatory dining room, opens out on to the garden, and overlooks the fish pond and waterfall, and the house offers outstanding moor land views from every aspect. Goathland, Nr. Whitby
