Description of Manton Cottage:
3 bedrooms – sleeps 6
A beautiful stone built cottage, which has recently been totally refurbished to a very high standard. It is situated in the centre of the pretty village of Manton, which is on the edge of Rutland Water – one of England’s largest man-made reservoirs.
Downstairs:
Large dining/kitchen area with tiled floor and fireplace. The kitchen has granite worktops and is well equipped with dishwasher, induction hob, electric oven, large fridge-freezer, washing machine and toaster. The lounge has a wood burner, double doors leading onto patio (with water feature) and TV with DVD player. The whole of downstairs benefits from under-floor heating.
Upstairs:
2 double bedrooms and one twin bedroom and a family bathroom with bath, shower (over bath), toilet and washbasin. Bathroom has under-floor heating. Bed linen and towels are included.
Outside:
There is a small but pretty walled and fenced garden with 2 patios, one with water feature and table and chairs. There is a small outbuilding. Parking is on quiet road outside cottage.
The village of Manton is a small friendly village and is on the southern shore of Rutland Water. There is a Public House, the Horse and Jockey, which serves food at lunchtime and in the evening. Manton is a great base for exploring the county of Rutland and surrounding areas.

Local Attractions close to Manton Cottage:
Within Rutland itself there are two picturesque, stone built market towns - Oakham (County town) and Uppingham, both only 3 miles away and well known for their public schools. They both have supermarkets as well as lovely gift, clothes and antique shops. Both towns have a weekly market. There is also a train station in Oakham with links to Peterborough, Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Birmingham and Stanstead Airport.
Only 20 minutes drive away is the beautiful Georgian stone town of Stamford with many shops, pubs and restaurants as well as lovely architecture. It is also home to the impressive Burghley House – where the Burghley Horse Trials are held every September. It has also been used for many costume dramas and films and is open to the public.
The cities of Leicester and Peterborough are both only a 30 minute drive away and Nottingham around one hour.
RUTLAND WATER
Rutland Water is a 3000 acre site and has 4 landscaped parks around its shores where you can enjoy walking and picnicking. If you are feeling more energetic you can cycle around the water – in total 27 miles or 16 miles for the shorter route. Cycle hire is available at Whitwell and Normanton. There are cafes at each of the parks where you can sit and relax with an ice cream or bite to eat. There are two children’s’ play areas – one at Barnsdale and the other at Sykes Lane, Empingham, where the Tourist Information Centre and Butterfly Farm and Aquatic Centre are also situated. There are 2 sailing schools – one at Whitwell and the other at Edith Weston, where sailing, canoeing and windsurfing can be enjoyed. Fly fishing is popular on the Water as is bird watching with reserves at Egleton and Lyndon, where you can find out about the successful Osprey breeding programme. The world renowned British Bird Watching Fair takes place every August at Egleton and this year (2008) Sir David Attenborough is the guest speaker. Rock climbing and trampolining can be found at the Whitwell site and there is a public golf course between Manton and Edith Weston.
