Description of Schoolhouse: Storyhouse is a stylish place to stay for groups, families, couples and individuals, with a growing reputation. It stands at the edge of Ballater, the beautiful Scottish highland village which serves as the eastern gateway to the Cairngorm National Park. The city of Aberdeen is 44 miles away. It offers a range of accommodation options, from shared dormitory rooms and family rooms for up to 6, to double or twin rooms. All have ensuite or private bathrooms. Wholesome meals are available. Groups (up to 24) have the option of self-catering. There is a garden with seating and BBQs, a drying room and cycle store. Informed by their own travels throughout the world, Schoolhouse owners Cathy and Alan Low are committed to meeting the highest standards, with a genuine welcome for all. They have created a relaxing, friendly and refreshingly different base for relaxation, socialising, outdoor pursuits, meetings and sometimes - exchanging stories. With a resident storyteller, bedtime stories are a popular feature of many Storyhouse stays. Walking, mountaineering, mountain biking, golfing, gliding and fishing are at the door. Hire of equipment and tuition are available. The outstanding natural beauty of the area has attracted visitors including the British royal family since Victorian times. There are many castles and whisky distilleries nearby and Ballater itself has an interesting selection of shops, restaurants and pubs.Schoolhouse is easy to reach by car, bus, bicycle, train and air from the UK and other European countries. Cathy and Alan both speak French and German. They are teachers of English, and non-English speaking guests are often delighted to receive an informal English class.
